The substance
Potassium iodide is an inorganic ionic salt composed of potassium cations K+ and iodide anions I−. In pure form it consists of white crystals that are readily soluble in water. On exposure to light and moist air it may gradually turn yellow as iodide ions are oxidised to free iodine.
Storage and handling
- Store in the original, tightly closed package in a dry place.
- Protect from sunlight; storage temperature should not exceed 25 °C.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.
- In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse with plenty of water.
